The Procedure
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and tightens the underlying abdominal muscles to create a smoother, firmer stomach and a well-defined waistline. The procedure begins with a horizontal incision just above the pubic area, which may extend around to the back. The skin is gently lifted, excess tissue is removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened.
Liposuction is routinely used to contour the waist and hips for an even more defined, flattering shape. A new navel is also created as part of the procedure to ensure natural placement and appearance. The incision is then closed
Recovery
After a tummy tuck, rest and limited activity are important to support healing. Some swelling, discomfort, and mild pain are normal, and your doctor can prescribe medication to help manage it.
Patients are placed in an abdominal binder after surgery and typically have a drain to help with fluid removal. Most patients are able to resume all normal activities around six weeks after surgery. However, it can take up to a year for your body to fully adjust to the new abdominal shape, but with a healthy diet and regular exercise, the results are long-lasting and dramatic.
